UK: Sharia Judge Argues in Favor of Polygamy in English Law.....

Only a matter of time. English Law already gives spousal benefits to polygamous Muslim couples....

The bodies of the Knights Templar were surely spinning under their effigies last night, as someone they would have regarded as an infidel delivered a lecture within the walls of Temple Church entitled "Family Law, Minorities and legal Pluralism: Should English Law give more Recognition to Islamic Law?". (Yes, the Guardian said Christians would have considered Muslims infidels -ed.)

The lecture focused on Islamic marriages and divorces in this country, with Sheikh Faiz ul-Aqtab Siddiqi (of the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal) speaking candidly on many areas. One such topic was that of polygamy, and the refusal of English law to recognise such relationships. Siddiqi boldly stated:

In a jurisdiction where rights are afforded to a mistress, or many mistresses, and where there are same-sex marriages … polygamous marriages should not be such an alien concept.

Siddiqi is a practising barrister, and has been involved with the process of reforming English law to accommodate Muslim cultural practices, especially within the area of family law. As a religious leader, he is at the conservative end of the spectrum. However, he is a well-respected member of a number of unifying Muslim organisations and is at the forefront of attempts to find common ground between sharia law and English law.

Later, after a question from the floor, he clarified his position as being one of confusion as to why relationships such as extra-marital affairs should be recognised under English law, and furthermore how men could be permitted to marry other men, and women other women. He argued that if such relationships were not considered abhorrent, then current attitudes towards polygamy could not, and should not, be justified.

Siddiqi said that polygamous marriages derived from the need to protect women from destitution, or from being "business for ... pimps". He alleged that prior to polygamous marriages female children were buried alive because they were seen as a burden to their parents. He spoke of the widows and divorcees left to starve; impoverished and abandoned. The Prophet Mohammad was said to have allowed polygamous marriages in order to give kind and benevolent men the opportunity to save these poor wretches.

This is such a bullshit argument. Women and children are no longer starving in the streets these days. Maybe in the moe countries, but not in the civilized world. Orphans are helped immensely and so are divorced women. The only time it is a problem is when sharia is followed and the woman is left with nothing. Polygamy was practised, not to 'save poor destitute women' in grim old 7th century Arabia, but because it was the way Moslems could spread their cult: Apart from enslaving all women and children survivors of his battles over 9 years, Mo and his army raped women on the battlefield, usually after killing their husbands (which is why, in Islam, it still stands that, if a woman is taken captive by a Moslem, any previous marriage of hers ceases - "those whom your right hand possesses"). A while back, I was making the argument that morality is one, you can't have rampant immorality and still expect your society to remain true to its core values (we were discussing homosexuality and BC was expressing, rightly, opposition to polygamy but saying you couldn't compare it to homosexuality; you'll notice the Moslem in this article is using the fact that Western societies support 'same-sex marriages' as justification for allowing the polygamy practised by Moslems.) I assure you all, paedophilia is next on the Moslem agenda, and not just for poor old Britain (which according to its police reports, has at least 3,000 cases of Moslem kids sold into 'marriage'). This is what I meant when I said the Left used homosexuality and Islam as battering rams against Western Judaeo-Christian civilization.

England was a cmmon destination for Mormon Women flleeing Persecution
in Utah. You oughtn't to quote the bible against it. since it was
practiced throughout the old and new testaments. Only much later
was the Roman law against polygamy imposed upon the church. Men
might still take lower status women as consorts, so any ban against it
entirely is quite recent, historically speaking.

England needs to get with its former colony advances in spousal law. In Canada, Polygamy is already legal in one province called Saskatchewan. They use their property laws to sanction multiple spouses!
