MANILA, SEPTEMBER 23, 2008 - President Arroyo has declared Oct. 1 as a regular non-working holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
After a month-long period of sacrifice highlighted by day-long fasting, Muslims around the world celebrate the end of the Ramadan with a three-day feast called Eid’l Fitr.
“To promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” the Proclamation stated.
In deference to Muslims observing Ramadan, the Armed Forces of the Philippines came out with revised guidelines regarding military operations against armed groups particularly in Mindanao.
