I'm trying to hold off getting too excited, we've been through this too many times to count. But if it is true, I'm going to get so hammered it'll take ten years off my life......
Ayman al-Zawahiri - the second most powerful leader in al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden's No. 2 - may be critically wounded and possibly dead, CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan reports exclusively.
CBS News has obtained a copy of an intercepted letter from sources in Pakistan, which urgently requests a doctor to treat al-Zawahiri. He's believed to be somewhere in Pakistan's remote tribal areas of Pakistan.
The letter refers to Sheikh Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri by name - and says that he is in "severe pain" and his "injuries are infected."It is reportedly written by local Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, whose signature and seal are visible on the letter.
The Taliban logo and the Mehsud's seal have been confirmed by experts as legitimate.
The letter is dated July 29 - one day after a U.S. air strike that killed al Qaeda weapons expert Abu Khabab al-Masri, and five other Arabs in South Waziristan.
U.S. authorities have said they do not have information that al-Zawahiri was present during Monday's strike, or that he was injured.
However, a counter-intelligence expert and other U.S. officials confirmed to CBS News that the U.S. is looking into reports that al-Zawahiri is dead.
Logan reports that while there have been false death rumors regarding al-Zawahiri before, there have been no denials yet from Pakistan, the U.S. or al Qaeda Web sites.

of course, if true, it shows he was in Pakistan....probably at a Pakistani government run safe house...The Pakistani government was angry at the US for the attack, because the US forces did not notify them beforehand...Now we know why ....The Pakistani government has indeed been protecting and supplying the terrorists....but then, we, the informed, already knew that...

e-brown above is correct. I recall reading a brief article on or about July 30th quoting Paki authorities as being pissed off by unannounced air strikes in the Paki-taliban heartlands.
I wonder if the Tyson Foods Co. would be willing to give their non-muzz workers an impromptu paid day off to celebrate the death of al-Zawahiri should this story turn out to be true?
That'd only be fair since the muzz workers at Tyson will want the day off to mourn Ayman's death.

"How I wish I could piss on his wounds or corpse."
You must remember that camel urine and the prophet's urine is considered to have medicinal value in their culture. So, muslims might consider your charitable offer.

ETB,
Meshud has emerged as a major player, although I believe he's more focused on turning Paksitan/Afghanistan into Islamic terror states...
