Time for the 9% Congress to get of their ass and do something.....
WASHINGTON — President Bush will lift an executive ban on offshore oil drilling, although new oil exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf will remain off limits until Congress also takes action.
The president will make a Rose Garden statement on Monday, where he is expected to announce his lifting of the ban.
Watch President Bush speak Live at 1:30 p.m. ET on FOX News Channel. White House press secretary Dana Perino says Bush is acting now in hopes of spurring Congress to act. So far, lawmakers have shown no interest in doing so.

Expect congress' ratings to slip further, in direct correlation to their predictable response.

"So far, lawmakers have shown no interest in doing so."

Congress won't do a damn thing as usual. The vast majority are most likely in the pockets of the Saudis. That's why they're our "friends" despite all evidence to the contrary.

They are also in the pockets of the envirochondriac lobby.

Given Juan opposed offshore drilling and drilling in ANWAR and is on the Global warming bandwagon, I wonder how much he makes off the envirochondriac lobby. :-)

Sigh... I'm gonna get pounded for this one...
Drilling Alaska and our shores into a hazardous ecological disaster is *not* going to decrease our dependency on foreign oil or the price of it at the pump. First, demand is rising and supply has peaked. Second, oil companies will simply say that it is more difficult and thus more costly to extract in these places, thus raising prices even further. Third, there is no way around the need to get off oil.
The U.S. has created nearly every modern invention in the world, so it's rather puzzling why there are so many excuses as to why alternative sources of energy "are not there yet."

You rather the Cubans and Chinese drill off our shores?
