Guardian: Honor Killings Have Nothing to do With Islam.....
It is true the the Koran and Hadiths don't mention honor killings specifically. However, it is deeply rooted in Islamic culture, being the natural outgrowth of Koran sanctified misogyny, hence the reason 99% of honor killings are committed by Muslims......
'Honour' killings are often assumed to be sanctioned by Islam since they occur most commonly in the Middle East and as the perpetrators cite religious justification for their acts. But nowhere in the Koran or Hadith (traditions about the life of Muhammad) is there a scripture or text that legitimises 'honour' killing, and Muslim leaders say it is forbidden
The practice is said to pre-date Islam and Christianity and was born out of tribal culture. 'Honour' killings are carried out by members of the victim's immediate family to cleanse the family 'honour' after a female member brings 'shame' to it.
'Honour' crimes in Iraq have risen sharply since the 2003 invasion as the Iraqi state disintegrated and people became more reliant on conservative tribal authorities to settle disputes and mete out justice.
In a BBC poll one in 10 young British Asians believed that 'honour' killings could be justified. (Just 10%? -ed.)

Just a coincidence that almost all the cases have ties to Islam and even honor killings are sprouting in the West. Just a coincidence, just like the practice of FGM.

I don't see how dishonor killings can be an "outgrowth" of Islam when they pre-date Islam by centuries.
And it isn't quite correct to say 99% of these crimes are committed in Muslim countries. The majority do, but they also occur in relatively high numbers in the subcontinent, among Hindus and Sikhs. The Arab/Muslim world does not have a monopoly on these crimes.

Give us some links which substantiate your claim that Hindus and Sikhs commit "honor killings", particularly in the West.

Ellen R Sheeley: Whilst it is true that such murders are committed most frequently in patriarchal, underdeveloped societies, it is historically significant that these cultures were dominated and ruled by Islam for centuries, such as the Indian sub-continent (Hindus and Sikhs).

Honor killings and other practices probably do fall under the realm of ancient paganism. Indeed, even the ancient Romans committed "honor killings" or suicide if the family honor was stained. It would seem that the continuation of those killings demonstrates the fact that Islam is really a pagan religion with a bit of Judaism and Christianity thrown into the mix.
