Everybody is talking today about how much the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's latest unrepentant militant remarks hurt his most prominent parishoner, Sen. Barack Obama, and his chances to win the Democratic presidential nomination and the general election. So much so that the Obama camp realized the latent danger overnight and the candidate was forced to speak out publicly a second time today, as The Ticket noted here earlier today.

But now, it turns out, we should have been paying a little less attention to Wright's speech and the histrionics of his ensuing news conference and taken a peek at....

who was sitting next to him at the head table for the National Press Club event.

It was the Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds, a former editorial board member of USA Today who teaches at the Howard University School of Divinity. An ordained minister, as New York Daily News writer Errol Louis points out in today's column, she was introduced at the press club event as the person "who organized" it.

But guess what? She's also an ardent longtime booster of Obama's sole remaining competitor for the Democratic nomination, none other than Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York. It won't take very much at all for Obama supporters to see in Wright's carefully arranged Washington event that was so damaging to Obama the strategic, nefarious manipulation of the Clintons.

'I have Islamic ancestors' Tory Boris tells Muslim voters- East London Advertiser

TORY London Mayor candidate Boris Johnson revealed he has Muslim ancestors when he arrived in East London on the campaign trail in the heart of Whitechapel's Bangladeshi community.

He spoke to community leaders at the Eshaat Ul Islam mosque in a bid to capture 'the Muslim vote,' as his Labour rival Ken Livingstone did three days later in Brick Lane.

"I won't score political points," Johnson told his madrassa religious school hosts.

"I am disappointed by reports of my opponents scurrilously spreading damaging lies about my attitude to the Muslim faith.

"My great-grandfather knew the Koran by heart and I am proud of my Islamic ancestry."

He attacked 'Islamophobia' and accused critics of blaming society's tensions blindly on Muslim extremists.

Pakistan Gives Money to Taliban Fighters They Injured During Combat....

The government of Pakistan has given cash compensation to more than 500 people for the Taliban fighters killed or wounded during the military operation in the tribal district of South Waziristan. The military operation was launched in 2004. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat reported that over 500 individuals were given about 200 million Pakistani Rupees.

According to the report, the local Emir of Taliban in South Waziristan Mullah Nazir and about 150 senior Taliban fighters, affected by the military operation, have been given an undisclosed big amount. The report quoted an unnamed official as saying that 50,000 Rupees were given for minor injuries, 250,000 Rupees for serious injuries and 500,000 Rupees to the relatives of those who died in the operation.

UK: London Mayor Ken Livingstone Promises to Raise Funds for Giant Minaret Construction....

The minaret will dominate a good portion of east London, an undeniable symbol of Islam's supremacy of that section of the city and eventually the entire country.  East London will also house the Olympic village Mosque, which will be Europe's largest Islamic house of worship......

MAYOR Ken Livingstone has pledged to help raise funds for a major revamp, including a huge new minaret, of the famous Brick Lane Jamme Masjid mosque in East London.

The Labour candidate running for his third term on Thursday made the promise during a visit to the historic building for Friday lunchtime prayers.

That would include an overhaul of the interior of the Grade II listed structure, originally built as Huguenot church on the corner of Fournier-street, Spitalfields, in 1743, and later converted to the Jewish Maz'ik Adath synagogue.

But the scheme controversially includes a huge new minaret that would tower over the Brick Lane conservation area.

Its construction could also provoke anger among those who fear an irrevocable change in character to a building that has housed all three great monotheistic faiths without alteration for more than 350 years. (Islam's domination of the UK in a nutshell -ed.)

Iran's Annual Crackdown on Islamic Dress Code Offenders to Start Next Month....

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian police will launch a crackdown next month on small companies which fail to enforce strict religious dress codes, Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday.

"In the first stage, police will only confront companies ... that are active in small buildings or complexes," the head of the moral security police, Ahmad Rouzbehani, was quoted as saying.

Mehr said the move was "to prevent social damage" and the hijab, or veil, "should be respected". It said the campaign would start from around May 4.

"Everybody, both women and men, just as they want financial and physical security, like to have moral security," Rouzbehani said, adding that police had urged people "to come forward with their reports".

In the past, crackdowns tended to be launched at the start of Iran's hot summers and petered out soon after. But last year's extended into winter and included a drive against tight women's trousers and even men with spiky "Western" hairstyles.

On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day and a week before Israel marks its 60th Independence Day, a group of over 100 British Jews comprised of well-known academics, writers, actors and other public figures has launched a scathing attack against the Jewish state.

"We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land," say the letter writers. "We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state that even now engages in ethnic cleansing, that violates international law, that is inflicting a monstrous collective punishment on the civilian population of Gaza and that continues to deny to Palestinians their human rights and national aspirations. We will celebrate when Arab and Jew live as equals in a peaceful Middle East."

In an interview with Ynet Prof. Haim Bresheeth rejected any claim that the letter was in any way anti-Semitic. "I don't understand why the signatories are being accused of anti-Semitism and support of terrorism. (No idea? -ed.) None of those who attached their names to the letter supports harming civilians or senseless victims on both sides," he said.

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- One person was killed and three were wounded Wednesday in Israeli airstrike targeting a metal shop in Rafah, according to Palestinian security and medical sources. Israel Defense Forces confirmed the airstrike.

The person killed was the deputy commander of the Islamic Jihad military wing, according to the Palestinian sources, who said he also served as a school headmaster at a the United Nations Relief and Works Agency school.

UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunnes said he could not immediately confirm that the person was employed by the United Nations, and added that said staff members who bring politics terrorism into U.N. institutions are fired immediately for violating staff rules.

The reality is the exact opposite on every point. Hamas has continuously launched rockets and other acts of terrorism aimed at Israeli civilians, they've never ceased, regardless of the phony "ceasefires" you hear the AP reporting from time to time.

Approximately 30 seconds after good ole Jimmy announced that Hamas was willing to recognize a Jewish State of Israel alongside a Palestinian state, none other than Khaled Mashal, the head of Hamas, contradicted him. It wasn't "spokespersons" for Hamas that contradicted him, it was the head of the terrorist organization himself.

BBC Reports: Indonesian Christians Being Persecuted by Muslims....

Anyone who reads the site knows that in supposed "moderate" Indonesia, Christians face merciless persecution from Islamist savages, the fact that the BBC is reporting on this is the actual news.....

Empty shopping malls are eerie, and this one is no different.

But in the dim light of early morning, figures can be seen slipping past the security guards, their footsteps echoing down empty corridors.

It is Sunday morning, not yet 8 o'clock, and the shops are all still locked and shuttered.

But these people have not come to shop; they have come to pray.

Shopping malls in West Java are home to a growing number of Christian congregations. There are 10 in this mall alone.

Few of them want to talk publicly about why they are here, but off the record they admit it comes down to intimidation by Muslim groups.

According to Church groups more than 100 churches have faced attack or intimidation in the past two years.

One of the groups alleged to be behind some of these incidents is the FPI, or Islamic Defenders Front, a radical group that became a household name when it forced Playboy magazine out of Java.

Church leaders allege the group's members are forcing churches to close through violence and intimidation.

Pasundan Church has been holding services in a suburb of Bandung for more than 60 years.

Last November, they were attacked by a group of local Muslims.

They threw out the pews and prayer books, and smashed anything else they could - including the cross hanging on the wall.

But Pastor Olbertina doesn't believe this is simply a bureaucratic row.

"Sometimes I heard that the mosque is saying we are kaffirs, and we're not allowed to stay here," she told me.

"So that's why I believe it's not only about the permits, but about being Christian."

Jordan: Man Gets a Whopping Six Month Jail Sentence in Daughter's Honor Killing....

AMMAN, Jordan: A Jordanian court has sentenced a man to six months in jail after convicting him of the honor killing of his 16-year-old daughter.

The court ruled Wednesday that the man killed his married daughter because she had an affair out of the wedlock. The enraged father severely beat her with a baton and ultimately electrocuted her in November 2006.

Like other tribal-oriented Islamic societies, many Jordanians consider sex out of the wedlock an indelible stain on the family's honor that can only be cleansed by blood.

Indonesia: "We Can't ban Jemaah Islamiyah Because it Doesn't Exist"....

Jakarta, 30 April (AKI) - The Indonesian vice-president, Jusuf Kalla, says the government cannot ban the militant Islamic group, Jemaah Islamiyah, because it does not exist.

"Jemaah Islamiyah does not exist as an organisation and therefore it cannot be banned," said Kalla in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI).

"How can we impose a ban? Who is the [group's] president? Where are its headquarters? Who are its members?" asked Kalla.

Jemaah Islamiyah is the terrorist group blamed for most of the deadly attacks that have hit Southeast Asia in the last few years. These include the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people and injured 209 others.

A COUNCILLOR today called for more control over advertising posters in "culturally sensitive" areas of Birmingham.

Coun Talib Hussain made his plea after a billboard on the corner of Sydenham Road and Golden Hillock Road, in predominantly Muslim Sparkbrook, was defaced.

The hoarding, close to mosques in Anderton Road and Golden Hillock Road and visible to parents and children walking to Montgomery Primary School, promotes Matalan's new swimwear range and features three scantily-clad models.

The models have been covered in thick white paint to conceal bare flesh.

Coun Talib Hussain (Ind, Sparkbrook) criticised the vandalism but said it was a result of the lack of action from city council bosses. He said: "I condemn the people that did this but at the same time it's wrong for companies to put that kind of advert in sensitive wards.

The vandalism is similar to a spate of attacks in 2005 and 2006 by a group called Muslims Against Advertising.

Italians Fighting Back Against Uncontrolled Mosque Building....

The city of Bologna tells Islamic group, either you agree to distance yourself from radical Islamic groups or you don't get to build your mosque. Guess what they chose?  Hint: They're not getting a mosque....

Bologna: A controversial project to build a mosque in the northern Italian city of Bologna has been scrapped - officially because local Muslims did not agree to two key conditions.

"As far as we are concerned, the project no longer exists," said the city's councillor for urban planning," Virginio Merola, was quoted as saying in a report on the Italian daily Corriere della Sera on Tuesday.

Merola said the city's Islamic Cultural Centre's failure to reply to a recent letter laying down two essential conditions for the mosque to go ahead, showed it "disagreed" with the city council over the project.

The city council's letter asked for a foundation to be set up that would ensure transparency over funding for the planned mosque.

The letter also asked Bologna's Muslim community to distance itself from Italy's largest Muslim group - the Union of Islamic Communities of Italy (UCOII).

The government last week excluded UCOII from its newly formed Italian Muslim Federation after the group refused to sign a 'charter of values' for Italy's religious minorities last year.

Washington appears to have decided its way of describing Muslims was counterproductive.

It is better late than never, but the US government is coming around to its senses with its introduction of a new set of guidelines for its officials and diplomats - specifically, about what to say or not to say - in the global war on terrorism.

According to a recent document obtained by The Associated Press, the US government is telling its people not to describe Islamic extremists as "jihadists" or "mujahedeen". Language like "Islamo-fascism" is also out.

One wondered why nobody has thought of this before but the reason is pretty simple. These politically incorrect words may actually boost support for radicals among Arab and Muslim audiences by giving them a veneer of religious credibility, or by causing offence to moderates.

Take the overused word, "jihad", for example; general understanding of the word is "holy war". For Muslims, it is a broader Islamic concept of the struggle to do good.

Walking a dog across the street to ensure it doesn't get hit by a fast-moving car is a jihad, one Islamic cleric told The Nation.

Hamas Fires Over 30 Qassam Rockets at Sderot....

Rocket attacks continued late Wednesday afternoon, with one hitting the yard of a house south of Ashkelon, causing light damage to the home and sending a woman into shock. The woman was taken to Barzilai Hospital for treatment.

The latest hit brought Wednesday's tally of rocket attacks to 15.

Earlier, a rocket landed near a school in Sderot.

Wednesday's near-miss at the school was the second time in two days that such an incident occurred. On Monday, a Kassam rocket slammed into a schoolyard in the city. No one was wounded in that attack.

Despite talk of a cease-fire between Israel, Hamas, and the other Palestinian factions, the western Negev has seen no relief from the continued Kassam rocket barrages. On Tuesday, at least 16 rockets hit the area, with one causing serious damage to a house in Sderot
