Toledo: Without Discussion, City Council Unanimously Apologizes to Marines for Mayor's Attempt to Cancel Exercise.....

Toledo does the right thing.  This must have drove the local moonbats crazy!....

Toledo City Council yesterday attempted to quell the controversy surrounding Mayor Carty Finkbeiner’s order to cancel a Marine Corps warfare training exercise downtown with a unanimous vote of apology.

Without discussion, the 12-member council approved a resolution apologizing to Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., for the mayor’s action Friday afternoon.

Mr. Finkbeiner, who has refused to apologize and has defended his decision, yesterday declined to say whether he would sign the resolution or if he believed the controversy would hinder the city’s attempt to renew the 0.75 percent income tax on the March 4 ballot.

People on both sides of the Marine issue testified before a council committee yesterday. Many blasted the mayor, and some even called for his resignation.

It takes a special sort of ingrate to disrespect people who are risking their lives defending you. Don't think the war is right? Take it out on the civilian leadership you elected.

Did you notice that the Berkeley bunch didn't attempt to secede from the union because they didn't agree with the war? They didn't send the Berkeley Police Department to try to arrest the president. That would take courage and honor and commitment. Not those weasels. They sent a letter, and give the lunatic fringe preferred parking. Regular profiles in courage, that lot.

Of course not. Likewise, I'm always struck by the hypocrisy of Moonbats using the "chickenhawk" fallacy. They damn those who support the war but aren't risking their lives on the FEBA, yet these same Moonbats wouldn't dare risk their lives with something like a hunger strike on the steps of Congress to stop this "illegal immoral" war. No principles, no convictions, no balls.

Its good to see that the city council of Toledo stepped up. The idiot Mayor Finkbeiner, however, is merely extending a petty dispute he had with a soldier long ago. He should be fired. Then tarred & feathered and run out of town on a rail.

No. The "aftermath" has yet to come. These Marines will enter Iraq at greater risk because their MOUT training has been disrupted. If one of them dies as a result, I'll hold Finkbeiner responsible.

The Detroit News ran the story that the county commisioner is giving the Marines (and their families) a free pass to the zoo, free hotel room and free meal to make-up for their loser mayor.

The Army has it's own MOUT training sites, complete with volunteers who play act as the local populace and enemy combatants. The crap that happens in places like Berkeley shouldn't surprise anyone. There's certain towns in this country that are notorious for being socialist strongholds. As a former Soldier and Iraq war vet, I'd love to be able to deport the miscreants to a Middle Eastern country of their choice. Let them subject themselves to the wonderful Islamic system they advocate.
