Poll Shows McCain Beating Both Obama and Hillary....

I know people have strong feelings about McCain, but after seeing all the shit coming out about Obama (end defense spending, negotiate with dictators, organize Muslim summit etc.) I couldn't live with myself if I didn't vote against him....

Poll says McCain would be tough opponent for Obama, Clinton- LAT

A lot of Conservatives aren't thrilled with McCain, true. But - to paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld - you go with the candidate you have, not the one you want.

Besides, even McCain understands not pursuing highly unpopular policies if a majority is against them. He was heard, for example, changing course on Immigration/the Border Wall, by saying, "OK, if they want their F'ing wall, I'll build it."

Lastly, who would you really want in command during the GWOT? Freaking Billary? Obama? God, no. The damage they could do to us in just 4 years is incalculable.

Remember, Billary cannot be trusted. Her opinion of the way things work is evident by a series of pictures posted as a comparison a few months back: A photo-op with Norman Hsu, Hillary smiling widely, and then her smarmy, ugly, nasty glare at David Petraeus during the Congressional hearings on the "Surge." I think they clearly show the real Hillary we'd get, not the one spun and polished for the campaign.

'Nuff said.

Well said LAM

When it comes to the WoT and Iraq I trust McCain 100%, obviously on immigration he's a complete bust. But like you said, go with what you've got.

OT:

LAM,

People don't know the pain that we have to endure up here in the People's Republic...

Not that off topic at all, Zip. It's merely yet another symptom of our victim-mentality Leftist skew on things. NOT having us pay for this is "cruel and unusual?" Umm, and where is the logic in that, I wonder?

Prison is supposed to be unpleasant. That's one of it's functions. It is most certainly not to make those incarcerated for heinous crimes at ease at our expense. Yet, this is exactly where this particular case leads.

If Kosilek was so darned got to trot for this sort of gender reassignment regimen, then why is it that it only manifested itself AFTER Kosilek was in a position to demand it? Further, in what way does this have anything to do with Kosilek serving a sentence for his crime?

Absurd. All just flipping absurd.

"Besides, even McCain understands not pursuing highly unpopular policies if a majority is against them."

Really? I wouldnt count on that. He is still pushing the Shamesty bill.
And remember part of the WOT is border security and he is hopeless on that. Big deal he wants to kill jihadists avroad. What does that matter if they can slip across our border unopposed?

Well, if you can name a better candidate at this point in time...? Like it or not, warts and all, McCain is who we're stuck with.

You can always write someone in. Im done with the Republican party crapping all over me. We accept Juan McVain we tell the GOP that this is acceptable and they will move even further left.

Interesting point.

I suppose the best way to look at it, at least from my point of view, is that these things have to be looked at over a long period of time, not just on the timescale of a single election cycle. Sure, McCain has made some serious RINOish compromises, and that's a bad thing for strict Conservatism. But failing some incredible upset in the next few months, he's the Republican candidate for President we've got, by all odds. That being said...

The party is rather like an organism, and can change over time. It isn't a given that Republicans will grow more Left. Many things can happen. For example, the GWOT could grow quite "hot" again, and people would become more Conservative in droves.

Personally, I think the Republican party should spend far more resources on fostering the next generation of adherents. If there isn't one, then there is no longer a Republican party.

LAM,

Its a poor decision either way. Support McVain and support the Republicans shift to the left or let Obama get in and damage the country in hope that this will spur a Conservative revolution. I was with you in 06 but the Republicans didnt learn when they lost big. Its frustrating to say the least. I dont really know who is right or wrong in this. Maybe we will luck out and McVain will select a strong young Conservative as VP. I only say this because of McVains age.

I do understand. My issue is that allowing Obama as President could cause incalculable damage to the US, damage such that no Conservative could possibly rectify it. Therefore, I find myself backing "damaged goods," because the alternative would be hugely worse.

And, as you say, a lot of this does hinge on the VP nominee.

LAM,

The VP is the key for me anyway. If really like and trust the guy, I think I can vote for McVain for I dont think we will last 8 years. I know its morbid but these are trying times.
