Professor Wants to Tax Babies to Offset Carbon Emissions.....
Oh, and it gets better, he's also proposing carbon credits for sterilization and condoms. Wherever the Goracle is, he's rubbing his hands and smiling approvingly....
A WEST Australian medical expert wants families to pay a $5000-plus "baby levy" at birth and an annual carbon tax of up to $800 a child.
Writing in today's Medical Journal of Australia, Associate Professor Barry Walters said every couple with more than two children should be taxed to pay for enough trees to offset the carbon emissions generated over each child's lifetime.
Professor Walters, clinical associate professor of obstetric medicine at the University of Western Australia and the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, called for condoms and "greenhouse-friendly" services such as sterilisation procedures to earn carbon credits.

Oh. My. God. He's actually advocating the effective destruction of Western Civilization to mollify guilt that may very well be misplaced. This 'tax' on childbirth would put a further chill on birthrates that are already too low to replace current populations and will make it harder to support social welfare plans in the future, without massive transfers of wealth from a small pool to an increasingly larger one.

If all the folks who thought like the good doctor would just quit exhaling , it would be even better than his proposal.

Oh brother! It will not be long before someone suggests a true-to-life recreation of the island of Vulgaria (the island where children are jailed in a sewer) from the film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!"

I say this partly in jest, but since many couples have zero children, will they be allowed to sell their child offsets to someone like my wife and me, as we already have three children? And if the Government allows the sale of such offsets, making my children "legal," can I expect that Al Gore will start a company that trades in such offsets, meaning that he personally profits in the transaction, like he does for carbon credits and offsets?

To Tom H
It is about time there is somebody that thinks like me. Al Gore is all about filling his own pockets with money. All this has nothing to do with the planet in any manner. It is all about filing other people pockets with other peoples (idiots) money. I bet if one follows the money it goes to maybe 50 people around the world and the UN. It is ALL about the money.

It’s interesting that Germany looked to the US for it’s ideas on eugenics.
Excerpt from link:
Though they couldn’t possible know it, the children of the Fernald State School were the victims of bad science and a newly developed bureaucracy designed to save America from the so-called “menace of the feebleminded.” Beginning early in the twentieth century, United States health officials used crude versions of the modern IQ tests to identify supposedly “deficient” children and lock them away. The idea was to protect society from potential criminals and to prevent so-called undesirables from having children and degrading the American gene pool......
...... It reveals the danger in misguided science, the fearsome power of unchecked bureaucracies,

Joe;
It's also worth remembering that one of the most active proponents of eugenics was Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. Adolf Hitler was an ardent admirer of her, and her eugenics efforts.

If we Westerners out of some moronic sense of misplaced guilt quit having children, as many already have done, who will support all the 3rd world immigrants invading our countries? Who will support all the 3rd world nations whose people don't migrate? If the West stops reproducing all that will remain is a desperately poor world with a still rapidly increasing population.
Why don't people like the dear professor sell this crap in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Middle East, et al where child births are too high, people too poor, and they couldn't care less about the environment?
Why don't people like the dear professor work harder to stop immigration into Western countries from the 3rd world? It is only immigration and the birth rates of immigrants that is driving up Western populations. The answer to this one is that self-hating, Lefties like the professor are too afraid of being called "racist" to advocate that immigration be halted or that 3rd world nations do more to reduce their populations. He reserves his "final solution" for nations that, without immigration, already have declining birth rates and increasing sustainability.
I really hate guilt driven, anti-Western ideas like the professor's. Disgusting.

I've heard of women having abortions in the name of "saving the planet," but will this now allow them to qualify for carbon tax credits?

As they say from cradle to grave. I wonder what will happen to the "its for the children" line of BS?
