I'm confused?....
OLYMPIA, Washington (AP) -- At least a dozen people were arrested as demonstrators rallied to protest military cargo shipments arriving from Iraq at the port in the state capital.
Protesters on foot blocked traffic downtown at about noon Saturday by jumping in front of large trucks towing cargo containers carrying equipment.
But police in riot gear moved in quickly, spraying pepper spray in protesters' faces, pushing them with their batons and dragging them away from the road.
The protest was part of a week of demonstrations by Olympia Port Militarization Resistance, which has protested the port's use by the USNS Brittin, which landed Monday to unload equipment that was used in Iraq by the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
One protester, Andrew Yankey, told The Olympian newspaper that officers removed protesters' protective goggles and sprayed them directly in the face with mace.
"My goggles were ripped off my face and stolen," he said.
Police Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad said officers tried to talk to the protesters to get them to move before using pepper spray and batons.

Maybe Yankey wanted to the port so he can go swimming with his precious goggles. He still can, but now he has to use a pool of his own whiny tears. Boo-hoo. . .

Is this for real? I can't believe we have a-- holes that would do this in the USA. Let them go to Iraq and help them rebuild. Oh but don't send my tax dollars to help.
God Bless the USA, our Troops, and Veterans.
The people who gave these a--holes the right to do this, with their blood. Come on people get real.

Nah. . . they got a well-deserved can of mace to the face, and in return, they got what they came for, a story of USA opression they can tell their friends.
Release those fluffy bunnies back into the wild . . . they're nobodies.

The shipments are returning for repair so that they can be redeployed. There's nothing dyslexic about standing against the machinations of war.
There is, however, a certain dyslexia to be found in a person who can read the US Constitution and then suggest that protestors be imprisoned. But of course, in the prevalent "us vs. them" mindset, a political opponent can appear as inhuman as an Iraqi. Violence is fun until it's directed at you.

Yeah Chaney, I agree, but this is not standing up against the machinatios of war. It's a fairly pointless exercise, because it won't change any minds.
And I think the protestors know that too, they just want to focus their rage on something specifc. In fact, I'd say that teh "us vs. them" mindset is partly to blame for their actions. I can understand their frustration, but it's also funny to watch.
Because the the real machine of war is more complicated than a shipment, and lives on ironies, and an amber of movement and energy between people who are just keepign their head down and trying to live. If you want a place to start, begin with education, not through handing out a phamphlet, but walking into the hostility present in your own community, laying out every point patiently.
I think if these protestors would focus their energy on convincing their communities and their families (the voting public) they might have a better chance at acheiving their goals.
I am a liberal, but I have to laugh along with the rest of these guys on this board. This is the definition of stratification, a separation. I see no benefit to what they are doing.
