Big applause for Pope Benedict!! Makes me proud to be a Catholic. Bloody Muslim riots in 1, 2, 3....
The Pope has again risked provoking the wrath of the Islamic world, by criticising its treatment of Christians.
Benedict XVI attacked Muslim nations where Christians are either persecuted or given the status of second-class citizens under the Shariah Islamic law.
He also defended the rights of Muslims to convert to Christianity, an act which warrants the death penalty in many Islamic countries.
His comments came almost exactly a year after he provoked a wave of anger among Muslims by quoting a Byzantine emperor who linked Islam to violence.
Yesterday, near Rome, the 80-year-old pontiff made a speech in "defence of religious liberty", which, he said "is a fundamental, irrepressible, inalienable and inviolable right".
In a clear reference to Islam, he said: "The exercise of this freedom also includes the right to change religion, which should be guaranteed not only legally, but also in daily practice."
Addressing the problem of Islamic extremism, he added: "Terrorism is a serious problem whose perpetrators often claim to act in God's name and harbour an inexcusable contempt for human life."
Last September, radical British Muslims said Pope Benedict should be executed for "insulting" the Prophet Mohammed.
His latest comments, however, come just days after one of the Church of England's-senior bishops warned that Muslim leaders here must speak out in defence of the right to change faith.
The Bishop of Rochester, Michael Nazir-Ali, told Channel 4's Dispatches programme of his fears for the safety of the estimated 3,000 Muslims who have converted to other faiths in this country.
A poll earlier this year of more than 1,000 young adult British Muslims found that 36 per cent believe those who convert to another faith should be punished by death.
Pope Benedict is particularly concerned about the persecution of Christians in Iraq since the invasion of 2003.

It's about time! The Pope is 80. What exactly is he waiting for? What is his bully pulpit for if not to save Europe, Italy, the world and Christianity from an Islamic takeover? He should literally die trying. It is nothing short of his obligation to the faith and the faithful.

I'm neither proud nor ashamed to be Catholic. But this guy makes me proud to be a kraut. Put the holy jackboots to 'er, Benny! Our pope is not a girly-man.

The Pope needs to speak out more. Especially at his age. Speaking of Christians/Catholics. Is this guy a real Christian?

I'm waiting and hoping Pope Benedict will have a Pope Urban moment and call for Europe to save itself from the Muslim menace or face extinction. How dim witted ARE the Euros anyway? What's it gonna take for them to pull their heads out of their asses and realize they are on the verge of becoming part of the umma?

I'm really glad that you know sooo much about my relationship with God there JDAM. Are you psychic?? Do you have an angel whispering in your ear?? Come on, tell me your secret, as to how you know anything I about my walk and relationship with God.
Because I believe that God doesn't want anyone to kill in His name, does that make me non-Christian?? Because I am not arrogant enough to say that I am right and everyone else is totally wrong, does that make me non-Christian?? Because I believe in love, as Jesus taught, does that make me a non-Christian?? Because I pray about every post I write in my blog, and do what I feel I am led to do, makes me what...a non-Christian?? A not 'true' Christian as elric likes to say, not that he would have a clue what a Christian is. Or who I am for that manner.
What are your qualifications to judge me??? Hmmm, or to judge anyone for that matter. You don't know me, you have no clue what my life is about, how often I read my Bible, how often I pray, how often I go to church, Nothing. But because I believe that not all Muslims believe in the terrorist ideology, because I call on people to err on the side of love and peace. Because elric sends you a link to my blog, now you are the authority on my life and walk with Jesus Christ???
Pardon me if I say your beyond wrong. But I am by no means surprised. It's pretty easy for some people to be holier than thou and to judge other people as a whole without personal knowledge of them in any way shape of form. It gets done pretty frequently on some of elric's favorite websites. But YOU, don't know beans about ME, or my walk with GOD, so save it.

Eagle, why is it that I hear the "Twilight Zone" theme song when I read your post?

The irony is that Eagle loves to judge others.
