I found this to be a fascinating article on the growing number of Christians in the Arabian peninsula...
ROMA, August 31, 2007 – Three months ago to the day, on May 31, the Holy See established diplomatic relations and exchanged ambassadors with the United Arab Emirates.
Few noted the fact that the United Arab Emirates has the greatest Christian presence of any Islamic country.
And it is a new and growing presence. Exactly the opposite of what is happening in other regions in the Middle East like Iraq, Lebanon, the Holy Land, where Christian communities of very ancient origin actually face extinction.
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain – situated along the middle of the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The capital is Abu Dhabi. Almost all of the citizens belong to the official religion, Islam.
But there are many more immigrants than citizens. Foreigners now make up more than 70 percent of the more than 4 million inhabitants, coming from other Arab countries, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines.
More than half of these foreign workers are Christians. Adding up the figures, Christians account for more than 35 percent of the population of the United Arab Emirates. Around a million of them are Catholic. And it’s not only in the UAE – in Saudi Arabia, too, it is estimated that there are already about a million Catholics from the Philippines.
But how do these Christians live in Arab lands ? What does this young, growing Church look like ? What scope for freedom does it have ?
The report that follows responds to these questions. It was published on August 19 in the newspaper of the Italian bishops’ conference, « Avvenire. »

Good article, take the time to read it if you have the time....
The failure rate of Islamic Caliphates is an astounding 100%. Putting the track record of all Islamic, or Muslim theocracy based central governments into context… all have failed because of greed, corruption and indolence. Soon after external resources that are “appropriated” to create, or underwrite a caliphate, greed, corruption and indolence dooms the concept to squalor. A macro-example of the 7th Century concept in the 21st Century is playing out before our eyes in Iran today. Smaller, or micro-examples of “opportunists” creating Caliphates in Afghanistan and attempting to form a Caliphate in Iraq are ongoing.
Consumed with absolute hate of American culture and values, Al Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden attacked America on 9/11/2001, believing that Muslims would defeat the remaining super-power. At the time, al Qaeda was operating out of Afghanistan that was, ostensibly, controlled by the Taleban, or “Islamic-Students.” Very soon, thereafter, Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and the Taleban’s nightshirts were aflame and they were doing everything they could to stay out of the sights of the remaining super-power’s gun sights. Many died, many were captured and some successfully hid in the mountains separating Afghanistan and Pakistan, while some al Qaeda adherents returned to their homes in Saudi Arabia.
More than prepared to manipulate the West’s mainstream media and press, radicalized Islamic killers that call themselves “Jihadists” seek to instill terror by committing precise mass murders. Enablers that call themselves “humanists,” or businessmen have paid “Jihadists,” or more aptly, opportunists, to murder, enslave and hijack cargos or, generally, “look-the-other-way” for hundreds of years. Americans, conversely, have dealt over the centuries with Islamic butchers, slave traders and pirates more directly by acknowledging the threat they represent and eradicating them as necessary.
Beset with the “baksheesh,” or extortion mentality that dominates the Middle East and Asia, reasoning must eventually prevail. The masses that live in the tortured lands from Lebanon to India and China must accept that through logical reasoning meaningful change can occur, otherwise, they will be condemned to the wills of their slave-masters. As such, Caliphates are thin veneers used in the name of Allah , or God to feed a monster that promotes ignorance, violence and a distorted interpretation of Islam to benefit a few.
This is the 21st Century, not the 7th Century and the cycle of human exploitation must end.

Trouble in Islamic paradise?....
A protest by Fatah supporters against Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip turned violent Friday when Hamas men began forcefully dispersing the crowd, firing in the air and beating demonstrators and reporters.
Some 20 people were wounded in the clashes, including two French journalists and two children, according to doctors and witnesses.
The violence began at the end of a Fatah prayer meeting held to protest against Hamas, which seized control of the coastal territory in June. A similar protest last Friday also ended in clashes and harassment of journalists.
Fatah had called its supporters to openly hold weekly Friday prayers throughout the Gaza Strip to protest against what they said was persecution of its members in Hamas-controlled mosques.
After hundreds of Fatah supporters finished prayers in Gaza City, a group of worshippers pelted Hamas-controlled buildings with stones and pipe bombs. Some shouted insults at Hamas officials, including Shiites, in reference to the group's links to Iran.
Hamas men began firing into the air to disperse the crowd. In a frenzy, Hamas security forces then began arresting protesters and taking them away in jeeps, chasing them in the streets and also beating several demonstrators. Associated Press television footage showed several uniformed Hamas men beating an unarmed protester with long sticks. After the clashes, heavily armed Hamas security agents entered the Associated Press offices in Gaza City and instructed staff not to film or photograph a nearby security building from the balcony without prior permission.

Sad as it may be, but forced marriages are not uncommon in the Islamic world. Al Qaeda, like always, just took it too far...
Iraq's Sunni tribes began turning against al Qaeda when the largely foreign-run terrorist organization tried to arrange forced marriages with local women to secure their foothold in the country, according to a top counterterrorism adviser to the U.S. coalition in Iraq.
Australian Col. David Kilcullen, who just completed a tour as senior counterinsurgency aide to U.S. commander Gen. David H. Petraeus in Baghdad, said in an extensive analysis that the decision by the Sunni tribes to break with al Qaeda could prove a major — if unanticipated — boost to President Bush's surge strategy in the country.
With an estimated 30,000 Sunni fighters in Iraq now battling their former al Qaeda allies, "the tribal revolt is arguably the most significant change in the Iraqi operating environment for several years," he added in his entry titled "Anatomy of a Tribal Revolt."

Nothing, and I mean nothing is too petty for Islamists..
ABU-DHABI, August 31- Saudi Arabia's religious police are insisting that authorities of Medina, one of Islam's holiest cities, should build separate sidewalks for women, the Kuwaiti Al-Qabas newspaper said Friday.
The country's Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV), tasked with enforcing Sharia law, believes men and women should not be allowed to mix on the streets of the Islam's second holiest place, where the Prophet Muhammad is buried.
The clerical police, or Mutaween, are authorized to arrest unrelated men and women caught socializing, anyone suspected of being homosexual or a prostitute, and to enforce Islamic dress codes.
The Mutaween enforce Islamic female dress codes, ordering women to wear headscarves and abayas, long black dresses covering the whole body except for face, hands and feet. Women are not allowed to leave their houses without their husbands or immediate male relatives.

All of this under the watchful eye of the UN force in South Lebanon...
In an article, the Iranian weekly Sobh-e Sadeq, the mouthpiece of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei circulated among the Revolutionary Guards, has stated that Hizbullah sees itself as part of an Islamic movement striving towards Islamic rule of the world – not just as a Lebanese organization.
It also said that Hizbullah was obeying, politically and religiously, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini, and now his heir Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khameini, and that therefore Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah kisses the hand of Khamenei and presents himself to him as his soldier.
In another article, the weekly stated that Iran's significant progress in ballistic missile technology will force its enemies to be more cautious in their contacts with it and will reduce the risk to which Iran is exposed.

Big thanks to South Korea for caving in to the Taliban, this will continue to happen thanks to Korea...
SOUTH Korea paid $A2.46 million to Taliban extremists in Afghanistan to secure the release of 19 hostages.
Citing unidentified sources in Afghanistan, a Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun said Afghan mediators persuaded South Korea's ambassador in Kabul that there was no other way to end the six-week kidnap ordeal.
"Two million dollars were paid to release all 19 people," an Afghan mediator was quoted as telling the influential Japanese daily.
The Asahi Shimbun said both a South Korean official and a Taliban spokesman contacted by the newspaper denied any payment.
The Taliban, who earlier killed two of the hostages, freed the 19 Christian aid workers this week after South Korea promised to withdraw its military from Afghanistan as planned and ban missionary groups from the Islamic country.
South Korean officials have not commented on whether a payment was made to any party to help secure the release.
Asked about the Asahi report, a presidential spokesman said today that there had been no discussions with the Taliban apart from those on the troop withdrawal and the missionary issue.
The foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Canada have criticised South Korea for negotiating directly with the insurgents, saying it could embolden them.

Jimmy seems like he's going to give the nod to Pony Boy. Edwards would pick up the coveted, anti-semitic, anti-American, disgrace of an ex-president endorsement...
AMERICUS, Georgia (AP) -- Former President Jimmy Carter welcomed Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards to South Georgia on Wednesday, embracing the fellow Southerner as a kindred spirit on poverty and the environment.
Carter and Edwards shared the stage at Carter's alma mater, Georgia Southwestern State University. Carter stopped short of endorsing the former U.S. senator from North Carolina but called him "a candidate whom I really admire."
"I can say without equivocation that no one who is running for president has presented anywhere near as comprehensive and accurate a prediction of what our country ought to do in the field of environmental quality, in the field of healthcare for those who are not presently insured, for those who struggle with poverty," Carter said.

Shocker, she is from one of the most liberal cities (Cambridge, MA) in a very liberal state...
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Islam is often perceived as a potential threat to democratization. Justifications for this view are grounded in the common view that for Islam there's no separation between politics and religion.
In fact, recent polls show that Muslims praise democracy as the best political system. (absolutely false -ed.) At the same time, they acknowledge the importance that sharia, or Islamic law, plays in their lives. This is where misunderstanding often occurs. Sharia does not refer to actual laws but to a set of moral principles and norms that guide Muslims in their personal and social choices.
In the same vein, most Muslims living in Europe and the US appreciate the democratic and secular nature of the states where they reside. (they have a funny way of showing it -ed.) With minor exceptions, there is no real attempt by Muslims in the West to change Western political regimes and to establish Islamic states.
This raises legitimate concerns about the recognition and freedom of other religious minorities within a social system dominated by Islamic references. Western politicians and intellectuals must acknowledge processes of modernization and democratization that include Islamic references, (dhimmi thinking in a nutshell -ed.) while striving to protect religious and cultural minorities and guarantee freedom of expression. Without these safeguards, it is impossible to envision any democracy, Islamic or otherwise.

Saturday May 26th the VNN Vanguard Nazi/KKK group attempted to host a hate rally to try to take advantage of the brutal murder of a white couple for media and recruitment purposes
Unfortunately for them the 100th ARA (Anti Racist Action) clown block came and handed them their asses by making them appear like the asses they were.
Alex Linder the founder of VNN and the lead organizer of the rally kicked off events by rushing the clowns in a fit of rage, and was promptly arrested by 4 Knoxville police officers who dropped him to the ground when he resisted and dragged him off past the red shiny shoes of the clowns.

Way to go Canada! South Korea has assured that the Taliban will continue this practice, why wouldn't they? Crime pays in this case....
OTTAWA – Canada's foreign minister, in a rare public blast at a close ally, has criticized South Korea for negotiating with Taliban militants to free a group of hostages.
"The Canadian position on dealings with terrorists is well known to all those with even a passing familiarity with the subject. We do not negotiate with terrorists, for any reason," Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier said in a statement.
"Such negotiations, even if unsuccessful, only lead to further acts of terrorism."
The Taliban began releasing a group of 19 church volunteers after striking a deal with South Korea under which Seoul reaffirmed its commitment to withdraw a small contingent of non-combat troops from Afghanistan within the year.

CAIR (of course). The ADL's release of CAIR's Executive Director giving a speech under a huge Hezbollah flag seals the deal...
The Council on American-Islamic Relations has once again squandered an opportunity to unequivocally condemn terrorists – such as Hezbollah and Hamas – by name and to address its past affiliation with the Islamic Association for Palestine, whose ideology is rooted in virulent anti-Semitism.
The August 29, 2007, "Open Letter from CAIR to ADL" is yet another weary tactic by CAIR's leadership to divert attention from its troubling roots and disingenuous record. CAIR Chairman Parvez Ahmed and Executive Director Nihad Awad continue to willfully ignore legitimate questions. Attacking ADL will not make the real issues go away.
An organization that purportedly seeks to enter into dialogue with ADL should firmly denounce the anti-Semitic rhetoric and support for terror organizations that regularly occur at rallies, instead of sponsoring and joining them.

Pedophilia is rampant is Mosques around the world and it seems to be tolerated, probably due to the severe repression of any sexual feelings before marriage. As with all stories like this, Taliban rule no.19 applies. I'm sure in the US, the ACLU would jump at the opportunity to defend these perverts...
ALI KHAN was sitting at a meeting in a Glasgow mosque, discussing a pedophilia assault in a house of God, when he realised he had to take matters into his own hands. A Koranic teacher had been accused of sexually assaulting a young girl under his charge, and Khan, a 47-year-old property tycoon, was sitting alongside a handful of other senior Muslim figures in the community discussing what should or should not be done with the man.
"Horror of horrors," says Khan over the telephone from his office in Dubai, "what was suggested was that the alleged abuser should be allowed to remain in the mosque."
The alleged paedophile saved the mosque from compromising itself by disappearing. "How do we know where he is now?" asks Khan, still distressed about the event. "The police were never involved. It was another one of those hushed-up things."Din, a member of the mosque's management committee, had a previous conviction for indecent assault. The boys he assaulted were just nine and 10. The first sex attack took place during Ramadan, while leading members of the city's Asian community worshipped nearby.
The police were not informed, and eight months later a worshipper at the mosque caught Din abusing a second child. Din had lured the boy to a changing room under the pretence that they were going to play football.

I work (yes, I have a job) on a trade desk and we deal heavily in options. Since options, puts in this case which profit from declines, are heavily leveraged instruments, you stand to gain or lose big. The markets have been weak as of late, so it may be hedging by the big firms, but $1 billion is a very significant number....
29 August 2007: In the weeks preceding the 2001 attacks on America, there were very significant financial warning signs that something big – and bad – could be about to happen. Huge surges in purchases of “put options” on stocks of United Airlines and American Airlines, the two airlines used in the attacks, and “put options” on Merrill Lynch & Co., and Morgan Stanley, stocks of two financial services companies hurt by the attack were noted. Put options are essentially “bets” that a stock or stock index will drop on or before a certain date; the larger the drop, the bigger the gain for the purchaser of the option.
Fast forward to the present day, and we have the same type of trading that took place in the days that preceded the 9/11 attacks – but on a larger scale. Nearly $1 billion of “put options” have been purchased, basically betting that Standard and Poor's 500 index will fall significantly by the third Friday in September. A large number of these options have also been purchased calling for 50% decline by September 21, 2007. For example, a 5% drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average would be the current equivalent of about 670 points. A decline of 11% would equal about 1,470 points in today’s market. Obviously, larger drops, such as a 50% decline, would cause an unprecedented market collapse. Money would be made for the purchaser(s) of the put options – but the same purchaser(s) stand to lose over $1 BILLION in the investment if the market remains relatively static through September 21, 2007.
The questions are: who can stand to lose $1 BILLION, who will gain in the wake of such a devastating collapse, who are the investors, and what do they know that we don’t?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday launched a new verbal attack against Israel, accusing Zionists of sowing conflict, publishing offensive cartoons and “lying about being Jewish.”
“Zionists are people without any religion,” Ahmadinejad, who has repeatedly predicted that Israel is doomed to disappear, told a news conference in Tehran.
“They are lying about being Jewish because religion means brotherhood, friendship and respecting other divine religions,” he said.
He also said that “Zionists” were behind a cartoon in a Swedish newspaper depicting the head of the Prophet Mohammed on a dog’s body that sparked an official protest by Tehran to Stockholm.

A terrorist organization in Iraq, the Jaish al-Mujahideen, has criticized an al Qaeda front group, The Islamic State of Iraq, for stealing their video. No joke.
The recent al Furqan video shows what is claimed to be an al Qaeda IED attack on a police vehicle in Fallujah. But the video appears to be the same as an earlier attack claimed by Jaish al-Mujahideen.

Scores of Pakistani soldiers are missing near the Afghanistan border amid claims from pro-Taleban militants that they have kidnapped 300 men.
More than 100 army personnel are unaccounted for, according to officials in the South Waziristan region.
A Muslim militant group said it had taken the troops because the government was not honouring a recent peace deal.A spokesman for rebel leader Baitullah Mehsud told the BBC that the army convoy had been surrounded and the soldiers disarmed.
The alleged incident came two days after 18 soldiers were freed by militants following a deal brokered by tribal chiefs.
"It has been only 48 hours and they have started their operations again," the spokesman said.
